It’s hard not to feel obligated to write about what I think others want to hear. I have the same issue when I teach dance, concerned with how I come across to others and if they doubt my abilities. I want to produce something more honest, and this blog – and the potential career path it represents – is my stab at that.
Sorry, there’s going to be a lot of insecurity here. But that’s part of my Truth.
I picked up a pair of KRK Rokit G4 Speaker Monitors on Monday. In case you are interested, here’s their stats:
I wanted to grab some Adam Audio monitors instead, but they were way out of my price range. And compared to my sh*tty laptop speakers, the Rokits sound amazing. I cut the bass because I live in an apartment and no one wants a maestro pounding through the walls at midnight.
I’ve been working on compression and EQ for a foxtrot track – something jazzy, or as jazzy as I can make it with the default saxophone sound on Garageband. I swear, I’ll never touch jazz again without some plugins installed.
Anyway, this is all just for practice. Once the track is done – and it’s about as good as I know how to make it – I’ll begin my first track with no loops. It’ll be 100% me, and that excites and terrifies me. I’ve been building my own loops gradually from scratch, so it won’t feel so overwhelming when I begin. Still, I’m under no illusions that this will be the hardest thing I’ve had to do so far in this work.
